FlexProfessionals offers workshops to support your job search efforts. To best support our candidates in 2020, all workshops will be online in webinar format. We’re offering multiple times and dates for each workshop, and if you register and aren’t able to attend, you’ll receive a link to the recorded webinar to watch at your convenience.

Webinars are 60-90 minutes long and limited in size to maximize learning, group discussion, and information sharing. They are geared toward professionals who have taken a career break and those in career transition. All workshops are designed to provide practical job search resources and an opportunity for job seekers to meet and interact with each other as well as FlexProfessionals staff. (We will still try and do this online!)

How to Find the Job You Love Through STRATEGIC VOLUNTEERING

Volunteering, done strategically, is a great way to sharpen your skills, learn something new, explore industries or career paths, gain confidence, and make valuable connections. During our Strategic Volunteering workshop you will:

  • Meet members of the FlexProfessionals and Charity Connect teams
  • Discover how both organizations can support you
  • Learn how to strategically volunteer to meet both your personal and professional goals
  • Receive job search tips for career re-entry or transition, including how to include your volunteer work on your resume
  • Build your network by interacting with like-minded professionals.

RETURN TO WORK PANEL: Career Re-Entry and Transition Success Stories


Hear from four professionals who took on the challenge of re-entering the workforce after an extended career break and/or transitioning to a new career. They will keep it real by sharing the challenges they faced as well as the actionable steps they employed to find meaningful work that also allowed them to meet demands at home. Our panelists will inspire and motivate you with their stories, but they will also provide honest feedback, practical tips, and valuable lessons learned. Join us for an interactive event where audience members will have the chance to ask questions and learn how to capitalize on opportunities. This event will be moderated by FlexProfessionals DC and Boston team members.

WOMEN IN STEM PANEL: Relaunch Tips and Success Stories


Have you left the STEM field to care for family or taken an alternative path for work/life balance? With demand in STEM fields growing, there are more opportunities than ever for women returning to technical career paths. Join us for an interactive event featuring women who have successfully returned to STEM fields from a career break or pivot. Following brief introductions from panelists, audience members will have a chance to ask questions and learn how to capitalize on opportunities. This event is moderated by FlexProfessionals and features four women who have successfully returned to STEM including:

  • Medha Inamdar – Medha has over 12 years of Engineering Management and Project Management experience within large telecom companies. She joined as an entry-level engineer and was promoted to manager of Network Performance as she worked in several geographic areas across the country. Along with her team, she was responsible for ensuring the network quality and performance metrics were met. She worked with Senior leadership and multiple team members across various departments such as Regulatory Compliance, Procurement, Customer Service, Real Estate. After taking a break from roles in the Telecom industry, she has recently joined a Defense Contractor company in the Electrical Engineering Department. She has earned B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical and computer engineering from the University of California and completed a Certificate Program in Technical Management. She has also earned a Certificate in Project Management from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.


  • Karen Viani – Dr. Karen Hathaway Viani has more than 25 years of experience leading teams developing technology solutions for the government and commercial industry. She is currently the Deputy Director of the Strategic Partnerships and Technology Transfer Office at the MITRE Corporation. In this role she is responsible for identifying and managing MITRE’s portfolio of high impact intellectual property from inventions of more than 7000 engineers, engaging with industry, and negotiating agreements. Her efforts have resulted in relationships with startups, Fortune 5-500 companies, and others complementary to MITRE’s mission; proposals for collaborative development and licensing of life-changing and globally impactful technologies; execution of agreements with universities and private sector entities; and increased return on investment for MITRE’s internal research and development program. She is active in community, charitable, and professional organizations. Karen earned a Doctorate in Systems Engineering from The George Washington University, a Masters degree in Business Administration and an undergraduate degree in Physics, and is a certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, Program Management Professional (PMP), and SAFe Agile Product Manager/ Product Owner (PM/PO).


  • Mary Ganley – Mary Ganley, currently a Consulting Safety Officer with Safety Partners, Inc., has utilized her experience of over 15 years as a bench scientist in both small and large biotech/pharmaceutical companies as well as her interpersonal skills to reenter the biotech/pharmaceutical industry in a new role.  She now helps biotech clients manage their safety programs, employee training, and permitting requirements.  In her time away from the bench, she held several part-time and volunteer positions that capitalized on her interpersonal and organizational skills. Most recently, she coordinated the Faith Formation program of 350+ students for her local church where she was responsible for volunteer recruitment and training; communication and relationship building with parents; and creating a hospitable and welcoming environment. Mary has a Graduate Certificate in Pharmaceutical Science from The University of Queensland and a Bachelor’s in Chemistry from Boston College.


  • Julia Glowacki – Julia Glowacki is a software engineer for two businesses in Charlottesville, developing software tools such as data warehouses, dashboards, and financial reports. She is responsible for all stages of agile development from user story development, coding, and testing. She took a career break in 1995, returned to paid work in 2003 part-time when she launch a custom interior business, then returned to a software role in 2016. She has a Bachelor of Science Electrical Engineering from Lehigh University, a MS in Computer Engineering from Penn State, and is a Certified Agile Scrum Master.

You will learn about today’s job market and hiring trends, top challenges re-entry professionals face and ways to address them, useful online resources to help you explore careers and update or maintain your skills, effective job search strategies for professionals like you, and many other tips for re-entering the workforce after a career break, including how to transition to a new career. Our goal is for you to leave this workshop energized and confident to begin your job search! This session is also great for professionals who, having recently left the workforce, are in full caregiver mode but want to maintain their professional identity too.

This workshop includes resume tips, strategies and best practices that will help you catch the attention of a hiring manager. We will break down the resume development process step by step, and you will leave this workshop with lots of concrete resources from which to write a compelling and current resume.

Following the workshop participants will have the option of scheduling a 1-1 resume review with the FlexProfessionals recruiting team. You can bring your “final draft,” “work in progress,” or no resume at all. We will discuss your skills, experiences, and work preferences and make suggestions for how to best promote yourself in a resume format.
