Small business that provides training courses to federal, state, and local businesses is looking for a Director of Accounting. 

 

Hours/Schedule: Full-time, Flex 

 

Job Type: Direct Hire

 

Location Requirements: 40 hours/week, 3 days on-site, 2 days remote    

Rate: $80-85k/year plus excellent benefits

 
Job Description: 
The accountant will be responsible for the management of the company finances and all accounting processes except for year-end tax returns. You will report directly to the CEO.

Responsibilities:  

  • Banking reconciliations, deposits, checks
  • Credit card reconciliation
  • Contract reconciliation
  • Posting bi-weekly payroll and reconciling to 941’s
  • Create and post Journal entries as needed
  • Maintain chart of accounts
  • Perform annual year end closing to include accruals, reconciling individual accounts, performing adjusting journal and reversing entries, submitting package to outside accounting firm to compile and report taxes
  • File local business licenses, and property tax and file and report SCC annual renewal
  • Provide owners with weekly financial statements including Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss Statements
  • Track with officers on special and unique requests such as loans, reports to federal government needed to certify the company, updates to our accounting system as mandated by contract requirements
  • Assist officers in key decision making and improving company finance positions
  • Analyze company insurance and workman’s compensation including annual audit
  • Compile 1099’s for vendors
  • Report GSA funding fee and participate in assessments
  • Set up company to do business in various states as required
  • Assist in HR duties to include maintaining employee records, analyzing benefits, insurance and salary tracking
  • Supervise an Accounts Payable specialist to oversee all credit card and vendor payables
  • Supervise an Accounts Receivable specialist to invoice against government contracts and non-government clients
  • Assuming certain administrative responsibilities to assist the CEO with the overall management of the company
  • Proactively communicating with other staff on status of projects and assistance needed
  • Mentoring and participating in training as a team leader

Qualifications:  

  • Degree in Accounting or related field or equivalent training
  • Working knowledge of QuickBooks Desktop
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Strong work ethic
  • Understanding of GAAP accrual basis accounting
  • Ability to review and provide feedback on work prepared by accounting staff in a professional manner
  • Ability to manage own time and the time of others
  • Ability to motivate, develop and direct people as they work
  • Understanding of how to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Understanding of Cost Accounting Standards a plus
