Non profit Association located in Alexandria, VA is looking for an Accounting Manager 

Hours/Schedule:  FT Flex, 35 hours week


Job Type: Direct


Location Requirements: Hybrid, 2 days in the office     

Rate: $90,000 – $105,000 based on experience plus excellent benefits 

Job Description: 

The Accounting Manager position is a hands-on position responsible for preparing monthly entries, monitoring, and analyzing account information, and preparing monthly financial statements for at least four not-for-profit entities. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for reconciling revenue and accounts receivable (A/R), working with an outsourced organization responsible for revenue reporting and collection. The Accounting Manager will work with the Director of Finance to execute and enforce proper accounting methods, policies and principles. Position reports to the Director of Finance.


  • Prepare monthly journal entries, including fixed asset, prepaids, and monthly accruals
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for as many as seven bank accounts
  • Daily, Monthly and Quarterly cash flow analysis and projections
  • Manage outsourced A/R organization’s financial reporting and processing to ensure compliance for SOC1 audit
  • Reconcile A/R monthly package from outsourced organization to ensure accurate recording of revenue, receivables, and credits
  • Prepare monthly revenue and A/R accruals in a timely fashion
  • Review credits for compliance with accounting policies
  • Review and approve appropriate write-offs
  • Approve ACH PPD payments initiated by outsourced A/R organization 
  • Initiate ACH transfer monthly from deposit account to LLC’s and prepare corresponding journal entries
  • Assist the Director of Finance in the oversight of the annual SOC1 audit  
  • Attend and participate in monthly accounting and program calls
  • Provide sales trend reporting by state to Budget Analyst for development of annual budget
  • Ensure complementary user entity controls as outlined in the SOC1 are performed
  • Reconcile accounts monthly ensuring all costs incurred are properly recorded for accurate reporting and ledger maintenance
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements for all entities, identifying and researching discrepancies prior to review by the Director of Finance
  • Recommend, implement, and ensure internal controls and processes are in place which monitor and protect the assets of the organization
  • Assist the Director of Finance in preparation for the annual audit, including preparation of roll-forward audit schedules to reconcile to general ledger
  • Perform other accounting duties as assigned by Director of Finance



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 5+ years’ experience working in a similar position
  • Strong MS Excel skills including advanced tools and formulas, complex tables and charts
  • Strong analytical skills, with dedication to accuracy and attention to detail Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with excellent time management skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment is a must
  • Ability to conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions
  • Strong communication skills
  • Not-for-profit experience preferred
  • CPA preferred
