Alexandria, VA based non profit is looking for a Full Time on site Accounting Manager 

Hours/Schedule:  35 hours per week 


Job Type: Direct hire 


Location Requirements: Combination to start and then on site as of June 1st     

Rate: Based on experience

Job Description: 

The Accounting Manager position is a hands-on position managing the daily operations of a 1.5 person accounting department. Monitors and analyzes accounting data, as well as monthly financial reports and statements. Establishes and enforces proper accounting methods, policies and principles. Position reports to the Director of Finance. 



  • Oversee accounts payable activities, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of invoices 
  • Oversee accounts receivable activities to ensure the accurate and timely management of cash receipts, merchant fees, A/R aging, and collections
  • Prepare monthly journal entries, including fixed asset, prepaids, payroll journal, health insurance, account balance reconciliations and inter-company transactions
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
  • Oversee the activities of the accounting department to ensure accurate and timely dissemination of financial reports
  • Prepare monthly financial statements
  • Work with the CFO and Director of Finance to develop and input the annual budget
  • Develop, implement, and ensure internal controls and processes are in place which monitor and protect the assets of the organization
  • Assist the Director of Finance in preparation for the annual audit Supervise one accountant processing A/R and A/P and provide back-up for this position as needed
  • Communicate with co-workers, management, clients and others in a courteous and professional manner
  • Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions



  • BS or MS degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 5+ years' experience of working in a similar position
  • Strong MS Excel skills including advanced tools and formulas, complex tables and charts
  • Strong analytical skills, with dedication to accuracy and attention to detail
  • Familiarity with best practices and regulations in accounting and financial areas
  • Ability to present budget and fiscal data in clear and comprehensive manner
  • Not-for-profit experience preferred
