Small non-profit in Washington, DC seeking an Accounting and Operations Associate with experience in the non-profit or government sector. 

Hours/Schedule: Full-time, flexible

Job Type: Direct hire

Location Requirements: All work is remote, but candidate must reside in DC/Baltimore metro area

Rate: $65-70K salary plus competitive benefit package

Job Description: Under the direct supervision of the Chief Operating Manager and working alongside the Director of Operations and Development, we are seeking an Accounting & Operations Associate with a rooted understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), financial principles, and financial reporting. The Accounting & Operations Associate is responsible for performing day-to-day accounting operations, maintaining accurate financial records, supporting both internal and external audits, and budget preparation and planning. The Accounting & Operations Associate will also assist with the onboarding of new employees, help manage the employee benefit programs. The ideal candidate will have completed a BA or BS degree and should be self-determined, motivated, and enthusiastic about learning and advancing their career. We are a small team; therefore, the Accounting & Operations Associate should be capable of taking on a high degree of responsibility and be self-motivated.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, in accordance with accounting principles and regulatory requirements. Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, such as Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Oversee the general ledger activities, including journal entries, and account reconciliations. Review and analyze general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data
  • Oversee accounts payables/accounts receivables, including generation of invoices and processing of payments
  • Oversee loan funds and repayment schedules
  • Maintain effective internal control procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with external auditors to ensure compliance with financial regulations and assist in the completion of audits
  • Provide compliant books and records to external stakeholders and regulatory organizations
  • Analyze financial data and provide insights to management for decision-making purposes. Identify trends, patterns, and opportunities to improve financial performance 
  • Develop financial models and conduct cost analysis to support business initiatives
  • Assist in the development and management of the company's annual budgets. Monitor financial performance against budgeted targets and provide variance analysis
  • Support employee time and expense reporting functions
  • Support creation and management of contracts and fee schedules
  • Support hiring, onboarding of new employees, and employee benefits program

Qualifications:

  • Must have an undergraduate (bachelor’s) degree, preferably in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field
  • Graduate degree (MA, MS, and/or MBA) in Finance, Accounting, or Business a plus
  • 3-5 years in general ledger accounting, preferably in non-profit and/or government sector
  • Proficiency in MS office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of GAAP and tax regulations
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks Online (Fund Accounting Software exp. a plus)
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to learn
  • Attention to detail and an ability to multi-task
  • Proficient in English
