Small Government Contractor in Alexandria, VA seeking a part-time, virtual Bookkeeper with QuickBooks and govcon experience.
Hours/Schedule: 5-15 hours/week (40-50 hours/MONTH), flexible schedule.

Job Description: We are looking for an experienced Part-Time Bookkeeper to manage journal entries, run payroll, and assist with various basic accounting tasks. The ideal candidate should have bookkeeping and payroll experience with government contractors, and should be proficient in maintaining accurate financial records.
Responsibilities:
- Record financial transactions and prepare journal entries in Quickbooks Online (QBO), ensuring both accuracy and timeliness.
- Create journal entries aligned with payroll records to correctly allocate time and salaries against chart of accounts
- Regularly reconcile bank accounts and credit cards.
- Maintain the general ledger by organizing and categorizing transactions effectively.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Track accounts receivable and accounts payable as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, government regulations, and company policies.
- Collaborate with management to address any questions and provide valuable financial insights.
- Support annual tax preparation efforts, to include issuing 1099s.
- Assist in establishing payroll deductions for employee benefits.
- Run payroll on a twice-monthly cadence. Review payroll reports and process deductions.
Qualifications:
- At least 5 years of bookkeeping and payroll experience, preferably with small businesses or government contractors.
- Advanced proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks Online (certification preferred) or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with Bamboo HRIS preferred but not required. •
- Strong understanding of Journal entries, reconciliations, and accrual accounting, chart of accounts and general ledger maintenance, financial reporting and budgeting processes.
- Ability to maintain accuracy in financial records, spot errors, and resolve discrepancies.
- Government Contracting Knowledge (Preferred): Familiarity with FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulation) DCAA accounting standards, understanding of indirect rates, cost pools, or timekeeping systems.
- Comfortable with spreadsheets (Excel/Google Sheets) for tracking and analysis.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively with management.
- Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
