Rate: $50,000 – $55,000 salary with excellent benefits

 
Job Description: 
The Coordinator, Content Creation writes and edits copy for publications and products, with a primary focus on the flagship magazine, digital newsletter, and online news. This position also identifies, follows, and reports on noteworthy events and sector trends to keep members engaged and informed.

 
Responsibilities:  

  • Serves as in-house copywriter for print and online publications 
    • Produces a variety of content types including news briefs, news analysis articles, profiles, case studies, photo essays, etc.
    • Works closely with publication editors to hone angle and scope of assignments.
    • Researches assignments via press releases, background research, and firsthand interviews (phone, email, occasionally in-person).
    • Follows industry trends proactively and independently, while staying abreast of new developments of interest to professionals.
    • Provides spot reporting for events.
  • Substantively edits articles.
    • Confers with publication editors to understand the desired angle.
    • Ensures articles conform to established, in-house style rules.
    • Works with external authors (subject matter experts) to get review and approval of edited drafts.
    • Collects, reviews, and organizes associated graphics and photos.
  • Identifies and pitches potential article topics, including locating noteworthy developments in the sector as well as brainstorming ideas for original trend pieces.
  • Assists with review of page proofs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:  
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or a related field, preferably with an educational background in or commensurate experience with science or engineering concepts.
  • 1 to 4 years’ experience in newspaper, magazine, or trade journal publishing; experience writing for print and digital channels; experience covering science, environmental, and/or nonprofit tropics strongly desired; multimedia experience preferred.
  • An understanding of print and digital publishing; knowledge of AP Stylebook and rules of grammar, punctuation, and proofreading; social media savvy.
  • Comfortable working with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to create engaging content; strong research and interviewing skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail; comfortable working with editors and internal and external experts; good problem-solving skills, as well as good listening and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel to events up to 3 times a year.
