Woman owned Professional Services company in Reston, VA seeking a 30-40 hour/week HR Generalist

Hours/Schedule: 30-40 hours/week, M-TH on-site (9am-4pm) in Reston office

Job Type: Contract to Hire

Location Requirements: On-site 4 days/week for the first few months, after which more flexibility will be allowed

Rate: $35/hour

Job Description: The HR Generalist is a highly skilled professional who plays a pivotal role in supporting all departments within our organization. This position involves leading initiatives related to employee relations, policies, and practices to drive organizational growth and ensure the smooth operation of our processes. The HR Generalist will oversee a broad spectrum of HR functions, from onboarding to exits, and serve as a key liaison between corporate departments and client executives.
In this capacity, the HR Generalist will manage essential HR activities, including benefits administration, performance management, and compliance with regulations. The role requires advanced knowledge of the UKG HRIS system to effectively manage HR processes. The HR Generalist must excel in multi-tasking, coordinating directives from various sources, and meeting deadlines within a dynamic environment. The role requires a versatile individual who can work independently, use resources effectively, adapt swiftly to changing circumstances, ensure diligent follow-through on tasks, and consistently uphold a high standard of professionalism and composure. Balancing multiple priorities while maintaining precision and thoroughness in all HR processes is crucial to success in this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate onboarding and orientation processes for new hires, engagement processes for contractors, and the offboarding and exits for departures, handling all forms and communication
  • Collaborate with the Recruiting Department to ensure that job openings align with our titling and salary matrix, accurately map to client RFP/GSA requirements, and meet company job description standards
  • Understand the company offer letter timeline and process, and assist in sending offers when the SR. Director is out of the office
  • Address employee inquiries and concerns in a timely and professional manner by facilitating conflict resolution and ensuring proper documentation or investigation steps are taken when necessary
  • Work with the Professional Development Coordinator to promote a positive work environment, enhance employee engagement, and assist in employee development initiatives
  • Assist in the production of corporate newsletters and materials for executive meetings and presentations
  • Assist in the administration of employee benefits programs, including health insurance, HSA/FSA plans, EAP programs, retirement plans, and other perks
  • Act as a point of contact for employees regarding benefits-related questions and issues, coordinating directly with company's brokers, insurance providers, and third-party administrators as needed
  • Help manage the communication and processes for open enrollment and mid-cycle benefit changes
  • Assist in reviewing company policies and procedures to ensure all functions are up-to-date and comply with federal, state, and local regulations. Conduct regular audits to ensure HR practices adhere to legal requirements
  • Conduct research and assist with legal matters related to HR, including workers’ compensation claims, unemployment insurance claims, and compliance issues.
  • Maintain and update HR-related documents, such as employee forms, company directory/census, employee handbooks, and other HR-related documents
  • Support the company's Continuous Feedback Evaluation Approach to performance management by assisting with reviewing, auditing, and providing reports on the process
  • Maintain HR-related Smartsheets and/or HRIS forms to ensure proper approvals and dissemination of approved forms
  • Assist the Corporate Project Coordinator and Finance department with the company asset inventory, which may include auditing and working with our IT third-party vendor
  • Provide various support to all departments with communication, administrative, project management, and reporting tasks as requested
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records using the HRIS system and SharePoint
  • Prepare HR reports and assist with tracking HR metrics
  • Stay up to date on computer skills and best practices, including word processing software, spreadsheet software, presentation software, Adobe software, email management, digital calendars, and video conferencing
  • Understand company's mission, values, and behaviors and ensure that daily interactions with internal and external parties align with these values and behaviors
  • Comply with criminal background check standards by maintaining a clear record throughout employment tenure

Qualifications:
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Communications or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in HR roles, with a comprehensive understanding of various HR functions
  • Functional working knowledge of payroll processes, human resources practices, and employee benefits administration
  • Understanding of FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act) and ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) standards
  • Ability to multi-task effectively and manage directions from multiple sources while meeting deadlines
  • Capacity to maintain confidentiality, when required
  • Skill in developing, evaluating, and recommending improvements to HR approaches, strategies, and systems
  • Advanced knowledge of UKG HRIS or similar HR systems
  • Aptitude to adapt HR approaches and strategies based on organizational needs and external changes
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including word processing software, spreadsheet software, presentation software, Adobe software, email management, digital calendars, and video conferencing
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or similar HR certifications is a plus
