Non-profit in Washington, DC seeking a Marketing/Communications Advisor for FT virtual work. 

Hours/Schedule: Full-time, flexible

Job Type: Contract to hire


Location Requirements: Mostly remote with meetings once per quarter in Washington, DC    

Rate: $40/hour 

Job Description: Marketing/Communications Advisor will strategize, manage, implement and refresh organizations overall approach to communications to:


  1. Provide strategic communications guidance in raising profile to position both Foundations more strongly for partnerships and funding;
  2. Facilitate and undertake the development of key strategic communications products that market them to specific audiences through digital and traditional channels;
  3. Advance the organizational capacity of Foundations in communication function.


  1. Incorporation of communications strategies and tactics for enhanced stakeholder engagement and creation of new partnerships; building new networks of national, regional, and international donors and partners that support peacebuilding and economic development 
  2. Provide strategic leadership and direction in the tactical implementation of Foundation’s communication strategy 
  3. Provide leadership for Foundation’s branding and identity development to align with the current strategic direction and focus, including recommendations for brand identity, positioning and messaging platform and brand rollout
  4. Support update of the design and content of the websites to align to the marketing and partnership goals of both Foundations. Refresh website for updating the design and content, draft content for specific pages, and developing creative material for the website
  5. Lead development of new communications materials and activities aimed at expanding the digital reach and engagement, including success stories, reports, case studies, etc.
  6. Advance social media accounts (Twitter, LinkedIn)
  7. Advance graphics and image bank and creating graphic content as required
  8. Monitor media coverage 
  9. Monitor, evaluate and report on timeliness and effectiveness of strategic communications (KPIs)
  10. Support organizational capability in communication function


  1. Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in communications/marketing or relevant field. Master’s degree is preferred
  2. 5+ years relevant work experience in a nonprofit or private sector environment
  3. Proficiency with Canva, Google Drive (Docs, Sheets, Slides), MS Suite, and WordPress
  4. Strong writing and editorial skills in electronic media, internal and external communications, or feature writing for magazines, newspapers, or other publications
  5. Ability to direct, manage and monitor performance of agencies in support of communications goals
  6. Excellent program and project management skill; ability to organize work and teams under pressure to meet demanding timelines
  7. Demonstrated ability to lead and be part of cross-functional initiatives and teams
  8. Ability to collaborate with international colleagues across organizational and cultural boundaries to remove barriers, mobilize commitment and ensure implementation of global programs
