Patent Docket Paralegal

Intellectual property professional services firm with a compelling mission to support leading universities and medical research centers in the commercialization of their innovative research is seeking a Patent Docket Paralegal.

Hours/Schedule: 20-30 hours per week, with potential for as many as 35-40 hours if desired. Schedule is completely flexible, with the exception of certain client communication which will need to be conducted during normal business hours.

Job Type: Contract, with potential to be made permanent  

Location Requirements: 100% Remote

Rate: $35-$45 / hour, based on experience

Job Description:

The candidate will manage the patent docketing function for individual clients, with potential opportunities to contribute to additional areas, including compliance, disclosure research and license agreement management, as desired.
 
Responsibilities: 

  • Handle day-to-day responsibilities for IP docket correspondence intake and file management
  • Docket new patent and trademark filings, incoming office actions, and correspondence (PTO, PCT, and Foreign Associate)
  • Assist in quality assurance reviews by noting and referring or remediating any errors or omissions observed during the normal course of docketing duties
  • Prepare docket status and maintenance fee reports for clients and their attorneys as needed
  • Maintain and update foreign and U.S. patent and trademark prosecutions in the client docket system to track deadlines associated with obtaining and maintaining foreign and domestic patents

Qualifications:  

  • A minimum of 2-4 years of substantive IP prosecution and docketing experience
  • Extensive knowledge of US/ foreign patents, PAIR, trademarks, and PCT
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage and drive projects and tasks with extreme attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and seek team support when complex matters demand it
  • Strong communication skills to represent the brand and manage client expectations
  • Technical knowledge/facility to support client systems databases, experience with Inteum, Wellspring, Cayuse systems is a plus
  • Strong patent docketing experience within a technology transfer office of an academic institution or in an IP legal environment is preferred
