Growing Government consulting firm in Ashburn, VA seeking a virtual payroll specialist with experience working for/with a government contractor.

Job Description: Payroll Specialist will assist the the administration and documentation of the corporate payroll function. The Payroll Specialist would assist the Accounting and Human Resources departments to process the semi-monthly payroll on a timely basis for two different employee pay groups. The ideal candidate would have strong technical experience with payroll administration and compliance who is also well versed in systems such as iSolved and PROCAS. Additionally client is looking for a candidate that is able to maintain accurate records, build support workbooks, and import accounting entries for the payroll function. Currently a significant portion of the payroll function is outsourced to a 3rd party. The Payroll Specialist’s long term goal would be to work with the 3rd party payroll facilitators to document existing operating procedures and bring the payroll function in house with new procedures. Other core requirements of this position include the ability to thrive in a fast-paced working environment, good time management skills, the ability hit deadlines, and to pivot quickly when needed. This role is currently a part-time position with the potential to become full time as client continues to grow. The role is good fit for a growth-minded individual who is empowered to help build out new scalable payroll standard operating procedures as the company continues to grow.

 
Responsibilities:  
• Responsible for processing semi-monthly payroll for two different pay groups including the following:

    • Payroll proceesing for hourly, salaried exempt, and salaried non-exempt employees across multiple jurisdictions
    • Calcuation of cash, PTO, & Sick leave requirements for each payroll
    • Ownership of the payroll calendar
    • Communication with key stake holders in payroll process

• Act as primary point of contract for payroll items for internal items and 3rd party payroll vendors:

    • OPSPro – 3rd party payroll facilitators currently processing RP’s payroll
    • iSolved – 3rd party HR/Payroll support service that houses key data points and processes payroll function.

• Validate payroll calculated to include up to date information and elections for employees including:

    • Working with HR to review/validate employee changes that affect payroll
    • Review of payroll registers for accuracy prior to processing
    • Resolves issues/errors related to payroll and benefits deductions
    • Working with Accounting to verify timekeeping accuracy (WBS codes and hours)
    • Coordinates setup of wage garnishments and other court orders

• Facilitation of off cycle payroll requests as necessary for items such as expense reimbursements, bonus payments, and payroll corrections
• Ownership of payroll reporting, compliance, documentation for internal and external needs

    • Works with Accounting to record payroll properly in financials
      • Goal to have payroll person prepare these entries in Procas for review
    • Assists with audits/projects to gather necessary reports
    • Tracks and owns schedule for payroll related compliance filings
    • Document all processes into standardized SOPs
    • Coordination with Accounting for the setup/update of employee records in iSolved and Procas to ensure matching and accurate records

• Maintenance of electronic records in compliance with laws and regulations, as well as reporting needs for external audits
• Effective communication of payroll guidance with individuals
• Handling of both sensitive and confidential information with the highest level of professionalism and the utmost care

 

Qualifications:  
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related business field (or equivalent experience)
• Experience in processing payroll function for a services based company
• Experience handling payroll compliance including compliance filings and withholdings
• Experience working for/ with a Government Contractor
• The ability to work for any US employer without requiring sponsorship
• Expert proficiency with Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of other Microsoft Office products
• Experience with iSolved Payroll Network preferred
• Experience with PROCAS Accounting Software a plus
