Foundation in Northern Virginia seeks a Senior HR Manager with nonprofit experience for FT Flex virtual work.

 

Hours/Schedule: 35-hour workweek, additional hours may be required to meet position responsibilities

Job Type:  Direct Hire

Location Requirements: Work is remote with occasional in-person meetings required (up to 12 times per year).

Rate: $100-120K salary plus medical, dental, vision, retirement, and generous leave policies

Job Description: The Senior HR Manager is a high-responsibility, hands-on role that leads the development, implementation, and oversight of all human resource operations and programs. This position plays a critical role in supporting the organization, ensuring that HR systems and practices help advance our mission, culture, and effectiveness through policy development, and contributing to developing a stronger work culture for all staff.
This role builds and manages the HR function that enables staff and managers to execute that strategy effectively. The Senior HR Manager leads the HR Generalist and Payroll Specialist, oversees core HR functions, and ensures a compliant, well-supported, and inclusive work environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage all core HR functions, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, orientation, training, benefits, compliance, and HR recordkeeping.
  • Design and implement employee training and professional development programs that support skill growth and retention.
  • Support and coach managers by developing tools, resources, and training that improve supervisory skills and promote consistency.
  • Manage and improve compensation processes, including job classification and salary benchmarking.
  • Oversee annual benefits renewal and administration.
  • Coordinate performance management cycles, ensuring tools and systems support a culture of feedback and accountability.
  • Support workforce planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Maintain and optimize HRIS and ensure accuracy of personnel records, tracking, and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and internal policies; manage annual compliance activities and required training.
  • Supervise and provide direction to the HR Generalist and Payroll Specialist, ensuring effective day-to-day service delivery and project execution.
  • Track and analyze HR metrics and trends (e.g., turnover, engagement, time-to-fill) to support data-informed decision-making.
  • Identify and mitigate HR-related risks through policy development, training, audits, and proactive compliance monitoring.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive HR experience, including management of multiple HR functions.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing HR processes and systems in a growing organization.
  • Strong working knowledge of employment law, compliance, benefits administration, and compensation.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to implement improvements and support change across HR areas.
  • SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred; nonprofit experience and multi-state HR knowledge are strong pluses.
