DC based Private Equity group is looking for a part time Staff Accountant 

Hours/Schedule: 15 – 20 hours a week

Job Type: Contract to Hire
 

Location Requirements: Remote, DC 

Rate: $50/hour 

Job Description:

The Staff Accountant supports the Controller in their oversight of all finance and accounting activities for multiple entities.  This includes maintaining a general ledger, processing payroll, managing A/R, A/P a 401(k) plan and other various accounting related activities. 
 

Responsibilities:
 

  • Manage accounting activity for multiple entities using QuickBooks Online.
  • Create client invoices and manage accounts receivable.  Ensure client billable expenses are tracked and billed accordingly.
  • Process employee expense reports using Expensify.
  • Process bill payments and 1099s using Bill.com.
  • Maintain subledger for a pooled investment entity:   Record investor activity for new investment classes, Record investor gains and losses based on investor ownership percentages, Create journal entries to ensure subledger activity ties to QuickBooks, Manage annual investor capital call for fees and expenses, Update entity’s SEC Form D using the EDGAR system, Ensure investor K-1s are accurate and tie to QuickBooks and subledger, Maintain and reconcile intercompany activity.
  • Process semi-monthly payroll using Paychex: Onboard and offboard employees, Manage employee deductions, Maintain employee PTO balances and calendar, Process periodic bonus payrolls, Provide compensation data to senior management as requested, Review and distribute annual W2s
  • Record American Express expense transactions through monthly upload to QuickBooks.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts including multiple bank accounts.
  • Work with external tax accountants on tax returns for multiple entities: Respond to periodic request for information from outside tax firms, Make tax payments to multiple states and track outstanding payment balances with each state, Review all tax returns for accuracy.
  • Manage a Vanguard 401(k)-plan: Onboard new participantsProcess payroll contributions and various other participant transactions, Review annual discrimination testing and 5500 tax filing, Create periodic required participant disclosures.
  • Manage health insurance benefit plans: Process employee enrollment activity, Work with Broker on annual plan renewal, Manage annual open enrollment, Manage COBRA benefits as needed, Distribute annual 1095-B to participants.
  • Assist with the development of HR policies and procedures.  
  • Manage Business Liability, Employment Practices and Workers Compensation insurance policies with broker and various insurance carriers.

Qualifications:

 

  • 5-10 years Accounting/Booking.
  • Experience with QuickBooks, Paychex, Bill.com and Expensify.
  • Comfortable working independently and managing deadlines.
  • Experience working with complex Excel models.
  • Experience reviewing business tax returns and managing tax payments with multiple states.
  • Experience managing a 401(k) plan and employee medical plans.
