Organization based in Virginia representing physicians, scientists, and other health care professionals seeks a contractor to assist in governance project administration for the next 3 – 4 months.
 

Hours/Schedule:  3 – 4 month project, @25-30 hours/ week with flexible hours mainly during business hours.

Location Requirements: Remote but must reside in the DMV or Boston area

Rate: $50 – $60/ hour

 
Job Description: Oversee planning and execution of the organization's board governance activities and projects. With the guidance of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the contractor will work closely with key stakeholders to ensure timely planning and execution of key activities and adherence to the organization's Inclusion, Diversity, Access, and Equity guiding principles. 

Responsibilities:  

  • Oversee implementation of governance policy updates, procedures, resources, and practices including Board evaluation.
  • Monitor compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Oversee the annual governance review process.
  • Recommend and develop policies and practices, including conflict of interest.
  • Facilitate the development of Board meeting agendas.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and senior leadership team to develop and execute plans.
  • Oversee project plans for the recruitment, orientation, and ongoing development of board members.
  • Partner with the CEO to plan and develop content for the annual Leadership Summit.
  • As needed, provide guidance and resources (including facilitating or supporting needs assessments and situational analyses) to support strategic decision-making processes.

 

Qualifications:  

  •  Bachelor's degree in relevant field; equivalent experience may be substituted
  • Ten or more years of progressive experience managing or consulting on governance or board relations, preferably in the medical non-profit sector
  • Strong understanding of governance best practices on principles, practices, policies and legal requirements/compliance
  • Strong project and program management and people management skills
  • Ability to advance priorities with little oversight
  • Adept at prioritizing competing projects and board needs, while handling matters expeditiously and proactively. Demonstrated ability to follow through on projects to successful completion, often with deadline pressures.
  • Adept at leveraging technology and systems (i.e., Salesforce, Higher Logic) to achieve objectives
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience handling and maintaining sensitive and confidential information with discretion and high ethical standards
  • Must possess excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills
